The money matter

I just don’t get it.

Received a SMS from an ex-colleague
“Ashley. Hi, this is xxxxx. Can I borrow some cash from you and return before Chinese New Year?”

I’m trying not to be overly judgmental and critical about this totally unexpected request from a man whom I have not been in touch for over 5 years. But it was truly disturbing…

He was a well-liked assistant manager in my previous workplace- someone whom we still speak fondly of till now…

When I received the request for a loan, there was an overwhelming stupefied reaction, which left me silent in deep thoughts.
What kinda emergency that drove him to such desperation to borrow money from a Woman, a woman whom he rarely met for the longest time?
Is it an imperative matter of life and death? Or.. can I trust him at all?
Couldn’t possibly help him.. cos I’m still spreading out the last wage drawn from the previous job thinly to get by… But what if….

In the end, I apologized to him that I couldn’t help due to current jobless status.

Simply couldn’t fathom…

He was not the first man to ask for loan. There were a few- one was my ex-colleague from Hyatt whom have tried to attempt a few times but failed. I wouldn’t even consider lending him as:
1) I was still a bloody student who pay for her own school fees and allowances with a part time job.
2) Excessive, incorrigible gambling habit was the cause that lead to his dire calls of help
3) Most pressing of all- personal feelings on man borrowing money from a woman due to such vices.
To be scorned at. Humiliating and truly pathetic. And to deserve no pity.

Do I look freaking rich with money overflowing from my pockets? Were the words- ‘Come look for me when you need cash!’ plastered on my forehead without my knowledge?
(hey.. don’t judge a woman’s wealth by her figure ok… )

Come to think about it. None of my girlfriends has such request for me ever.
Conclusion?
We, Women are more self-sufficient, independent, resourceful and in full control of our money.

Learn from us, boys…

Editor’s Note: I’m not talking about the other treacherous female species- Namely, the Materialistic who splurge on branded goods and unnecessary luxuries by squeezing their men dry………
